TOLLEGNO 1900 TAKING PART IN ‘FEEL THE YARN – THE CONTEST’
After the first collaboration in 2017, for 2020 as well Tollegno 1900, together with 33 other companies in the yarn sector, is taking part in ‘Feel The Yarn – the Contest’, a competition that aims to connect international fashion schools and businesses by offering student-designers the opportunity to concretely experiment with their creativity by creating a unique garment with the yarns offered by the spinning mills.
‘We strongly believe in this project,’ explains Tollegno 1900, ‘and we are happy to again be part of it for this eleventh edition. For us it is the fourth consecutive one, and the results we have been able to verify by directly following the students who got paired with us, left us with great hope for future generations. We have always been at the forefront in offering growth opportunities to young designers who, from direct contact with the company, can perfect their skills and, at the same time, contribute with their originality. A generational contamination that will allow the most talented ones to open important professional doors.’
One example is Giorgia Medici, the student who in 2017 got paired with Tollegno 1900 to create her outfit, which, after the Contest, earned her an experience in the staff of Sonia Rykiel and one as a junior & jersey product developer for Stella McCartney. ‘The future is built by investing in the professionals of tomorrow, who need the support of people with solid experience to build their path. We believe that the task of a company is also this: to give opportunities to those who have seriously chosen a working career.’
The merits of ‘Feel The Yarn – The Contest’, organized by ‘Consorzio Promozione Filati – CPF’ and ‘Pitti Immagine Filati’, and curated by Ornella Bignami, are numerous, like not setting boundaries for creativity by creating relationships of value between international schools and Italian businesses and putting a spotlight on the iconic yarns of the individual participating companies.
‘The Contest is a showcase for us too,’ confirms Tollegno 1900, ‘and even though we are already widely established abroad with our products, thanks to this event we can offer a further image of our company. Internationalizing doesn’t just mean exporting your yarns outside Italian borders, it means getting in touch with different worlds and cultures that become inspiration and input for your own development.’
