A wool center of great importance since Roman times, Arpino, at the beginning of the 18th century, thanks to the arrival of the French technician Baduel and other expert workers from Holland and England, became a place of excellence for the creation of the first wool mills operating on a large scale. Structures that quickly acquired importance and significance as confirmed by the visit in 1744 of Charles III of Bourbon who awarded some of the Arpino factories the title of “royal wool mill”. A precious testimony to this industrial story is the “Museum of the Art of Wool” which preserves and exhibits the period equipment from the ancient Diodati wool mill, and reconstructs the production phases in a historically documented journey. Also on display are various machines: a splicing machine, three carding machines, a twisting machine, a warping machine and four looms together with the original powders for dyeing fabrics. An accurate historical and iconographic documentation, curated by experts in the sector, completes the museum’s collection.
