Among the main wool producing countries in the world based on data dating back to 1999 there is Australia, followed by New Zealand, China, Great Britain, Uruguay, Argentina, Pakistan, the Republic of South Africa, India, the Russian Federation, Iran, Sudan and Spain. Australia in particular is responsible for producing 25% of the world’s wool. The United States is also not secondary – 25.7 million kilos of wool produced in 2016 – with Texas, Colorado, California, Utah and Wyoming among the most active states. Although the United States produces 17% of the world’s wool, its production has gradually decreased thanks to the invention of synthetic fibers. Thus, most US wool is currently sold as raw wool.
