June 2nd is the day on which, with the vote of the citizens, Italy decided to become a Republic.
The Italian Constitution states, in article 1: “Italy is a democratic Republic, founded on work. Sovereignty belongs to the people, who exercises it in the forms and within the limits of the Constitution.”
