Discovering artists who have made the noble yarn one of the interpreters of their creativity

American Sheila Hicks lives and works in Paris, and her conceptual work includes unconventional tapestries, large-scale sculptures and woven and framed miniatures. The use of traditional fibres such as cotton, wool and silk goes hand in hand with the use of unexpected materials such as steel fibres. “Fabric has long been relegated to a secondary role in our society, which sees it as a decorative material. My intention is to give it another status, showing what an artist can create with these incredible yarns”, says the artist whose works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Paris, Centre Pompidou, Stedelijk Museum and Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
