Books that make the noble yarn par excellence the protagonist or the inspiration

Wool manufacturing, together with large-scale trade and international finance, was one of the driving sectors of late medieval Florence. The sixteenth century has only been touched upon by historical-economic studies, especially regarding the organization of production or work, perhaps because it was traditionally considered the century of decadence. More recent research has instead highlighted the need to rethink these conclusions, demonstrating how the textile sector represents a good observation point for examining the critical issues and evaluating the prospects of the economy of the city of the Lily in the sixteenth century. By combining the analysis of a case study with critical reworkings of what the literature offers on more general themes, the book presents a long-term vision of the process of rise and decline of the Arte della Lana of Florence, reinterpreting it in the light of new archival excavations
