What to do and what to avoid to ensure a long life for a wool sweater. And not only that.

Hand wash or machine wash? Cold or hot water? Tumble dryer yes or no? To ensure that a wool garment does not felt when washed, here are a few clear suggestions.

TO DO

  • Yes Machine wash
  • Yes From 1 to 3 items maximum in the washing machine drum. If bulky or heavy, it is better to wash them individually.
  • Yes Even two-colored items as long as they are the same tone. Eco tip: add a few grains of coarse salt to the drum if you are washing 2/3 items of different shades
  • Yes Using plenty of cold water
  • Yes Limiting the use of detergents: it is better to opt for the use of neutral liquid soap
  • Yes Planning the use of a washing program lasting a maximum of 30 minutes. Alternatively, use the rinse program
  • Yes Spin but at 500/800 rpm
  • Yes Dry flat or use a domestic dryer but at a maximum temperature of 45°C
  • Yes Iron with plenty of steam and at a medium temperature

NEVER do

  • No Use hot water if at 30°
  • No Wash too many items together using little water. Their rubbing causes felting
  • No Mix white and black items in the washing machine drum
  • No Use too much detergent
  • No Fabric softener
  • No Use washing machine programs lasting more than 30 minutes
  • No Hang the item to dry
  • No Lay it out in the sun
