After his thesis project, Overlay, the young knitwear designer has clear ideas about his future: from new collaborations to the further development of his existing brand, Antesch.

For his thesis at IED Turin, he chose Harmony by Tollegno 1900 in four colors to create knitwear with a strong identity. Eugenio Cauteruccio owes his passion for knitwear to a professor who instilled in him an enthusiasm for this world. Compared to his educational background, his approach to this world was non-linear. “My educational background is quite unique. After enrolling in a technical school and graduating in electronics and electrotechnics, I changed direction, choosing a path that better suited me. So I chose IED Turin, where I discovered my passion for knitwear and continued to explore it further.”

Eugenio, you have one of your professors to thank for sparking your curiosity about knitwear…

Definitely! My passion for knitwear began during my second year of college, when I met a professor who introduced me to this world, instilling all his enthusiasm. His influence was so strong that he encouraged me to want to “do more” and experiment. It’s no coincidence that I immediately began looking for machinery to use to give shape to my creativity. The desire to create what I designed was immediately evident.

And was that when you came into contact with Tollegno 1900?

I also learned about Tollegno 1900 thanks to my professor. Discussing my thesis project with him and the type of yarn I wanted to use, he immediately directed me to this company.

Which yarn did you focus on?

For the knitwear for my thesis, I decided to use only 100% merino wool, focusing immediately on Harmony by Tollegno 1900. However, I selected four different yarns to create movement in the collection.

Why Harmony?

Regarding the garments and the designs I wanted to create, I needed softness but also structure in the yarn, working with 5-ply yarns on the machine throughout the garment. For the appliqués, however, the Harmony yarn, worked into tubular shapes and then filled, allowed me to achieve the softness that the padding channel would have compromised if inserted with other types of yarn.

Thanks also to Harmony, you were able to give “shape” to your project. What was the inspiration behind Overlay?

My thesis collection is based on the design of a new armor, conceived as the definitive one, inspired by different types of protection existing in both the human and animal worlds. Observing their movement and how they are used led to the creation of what I consider the ultimate armor. From here, Overlay was born.

Having completed my thesis, all that remains is to look to the future. What are your plans?

I have a thousand, ranging from participating in several Italian fashion shows and exhibitions to establishing some further collaborations with the school that’s requesting my garments. I can’t wait to fully enter the professional world and try to absorb as much as possible. This is an essential step in developing my ANTESCH brand.

Good luck, Eugenio!
