Don’t be fooled by the name which refers to distant lands where ice reigns supreme and time lashes faces. Behind Artik Visual – communication agency specialized in the production of videos, photos and 3D animations for the development of creative concepts – lies a Biella soul. The team is in fact originally from these places which, however, have little of the Arctic. Lorenzo Grossi, project manager of the agency and “made in Biella” by origins, also confirms this.
Being called to make a video that told about a recent innovation introduced by Tollegno 1900, the Color Archive, was written in your destiny…
Having been born in Biella, we know up close the reality of Tollegno 1900, one of the best-known companies in the textile sector far beyond our province. However, being called to collaborate on the project “The Color Archive” to be presented at Pitti Filati #95 allowed us to shorten the distances and understand the world that hides behind the Filatura. Extremely fascinating world… like the initiative we were involved in.
Your team was called to create a video that could tell the story of the color archive that Tollegno 1900 showed to buyers, clients and international buyers last Pitti Filati. Not an easy task. How did you proceed?
After an initial inspection of the company to view the spaces, but also breathe the atmosphere, we organized two separate days of filming. The first one was dedicated exclusively to indoors to focus on different sets and to fully enhance them. I am thinking, for example, to the spaces used for fabrics and yarns to film which we used lenses and particular lighting to give further strength to their beauty. The second day, however, was dedicated to exteriors: the shots, in this case, were taken both with a drone and from the ground.
The next phase is post-production…
Exactly. We needed a couple of days for editing, color correction and sound design…
Have you encountered any critical issues?
Time is always a tyrant. What was available to us was such that we had to optimize every action to be ready for the deadlines promised to the company. However, a challenge that we wanted to accept from the first moment. The support of the Tollegno 1900’s staff was invaluable: the speed of their feedback allowed us to respect the delivery dates without ever compromising the quality of the product, even though the weather certainly didn’t help us. The filming took place between May and June, months in which the sun often gave way to rain. In those days we kept ourselves ready for action and managed to capture the beauty of the environment surrounding the spinning mill.
An effort that was rewarded, together with the achievement of the goal you had set yourself..
Our aim was to be able to communicate all the aspects and nuances that “The Color Archive” contains and represents: from the passion and dedication for the work carried out by the Tollegno 1900’s staff, to the know-how developed during the over 100 years of spinning activity, attention to innovation and sensitivity towards nature, heritage and contemporaneity. The latter aspects are expressed by the numerous references to the archive during the video, alternating however with filming in the company. Furthermore, we also wanted to enhance the wonderful natural corner of the Biella area in which Tollegno 1900 is immersed and with which it has a very attentive and close relationship.
After this immersion in the world of yarns and nature, what will you experiment with?
In addition to carrying out some annual projects, we will be involved in some productions for the world of fashion, in some rather “crazy” projects for RedBull, we will also be involved in the launch of a new boat and an initiative focused on the use of 3D animation for VR.
