Shearing should be scheduled in spring or autumn because these are the two times of the year when the animal’s coat is brighter and softer. It is also possible to take the hair from a dead animal but the quality is not the same and the wool is called tanned wool, less valuable than the other, called bistosa. At this point the wool is cleaned and degreased in order to remove the substances and impurities it is soaked in. When wool is washed before shearing it is referred to as skipped wool.
